  8. COZYING OF JUPITER, VENUS LIGHT UP SKY

  10.       Reports of unidentified flyin
  11. g objects are being made, and the most 
  12. likely explanation is the rare alignm
  13. ent of Jupiter and Venus.
  14.       Some Fairport Harbor residents reported seein
  15. g UFOs and large bright 
  16. objects hovering over Lake Erie over the weekend.
  17.       
  18. The Fairport Harbor Coast Guard went to the area and saw a large 
  19. bright obje
  20. ct that seemed to disperse smaller, brightly colored objects. 
  21. But when they called the Gre
  22. ater Cleveland air traffic controllers, they 
  23. learned that Jupiter and Venus 
  24. were in alignment and that the colors were 
  25. the result of spontaneous gas emi
  26. ssions from the two planets.
  27.       Its the celestial equivalent of a colorful 
  28. floor show, says Charles 
  29. B. Stephenson, a professor of astronomy at Case Wes
  30. tern Reserve 
  31. University.
  32.       The Earth's atmosphere helps create the color 
  33. sensation, in the same 
  34. way that distant stars appear to twinkle.
